The Democrats' short-sighted yet most appealing action plan is summed up in one word: attack, attack, attack. Okay, maybe three words.
For years now, its become evident that to the Dems, every year's an election year. No matter what it takes to discredit Republicans; whether attempting to make them look like hypocritical liars, contradicting everything they say (or plan) to appear as the "Party of the People", or flat-out lying to the American public; it seems liberals will stoop to newer lows at every turn to appear to stay on top for the sake of power.
Leaders in the Democratic Senate, (D-VT) Leahy and (D-NY) Schumer, are calling for the head of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. They want an immediate resignation, his 'surrender' if you will; much akin to their primary achievement in the war on terror.
So just what did Gonzales do? Was he caught with a gay lover? Did he have an affair with another friend's wife? Did he "not have relations" with an intern he was actually having relations with? Nope. He fired a few of his subordinates, and the Democrats smell blood.
In what looks like the apocolyptic breakdown of our democracy, liberals never seem to grow tired of enjoying the hypocrisy they accuse Republicans of engaging in. The equivalent of "Do as I say, not as I do", Dems continually stand as the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.
As anticipated, Democratic Senators and House members alike have no intention whatsoever to pass productive legislation designed to actively serve the American people; they're rather on a Washington Witch-Hunt that would rival those at Salem in 1692. Upon taking Congress late last year, (D-CA) San Francisco Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called for ethics reform unlike the Republicans ever did (after hypocritically removing (D-LA) William Jefferson, who was filmed taking bribe money in cash to the tune of $100,000, $90,000 of which was found in an FBI raid in his home freezer, from the House Ways and Means Committee, and then appointing him to the Homeland Security Commission..
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/21/AR2006052100167.html); as well as imposing on the will of the people that Democrats would "investigate" this administration during its term; begging the question: Will they accomplish anything else?
Like a collision-course ship at sea, the Dems haven't a leg to stand on in calling for the head of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, but have no concern for the facts of the matter.
Despite the undisputable fact that the U.S. Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President, and he, exclusively has the right to fire them at any time for any reason, the consensus among President Bush and his staff is to lay low and simply avoid the blood-thirsty animals until they go away. Apparently his advisors need a new strategy; their "reactive" instead of "pro-active" approach is wearing thin on both them as well as the American people.
In a barrage of questioning yesterday, the White House Press Room stood as an ultra-liberal wolfpack over a freshly decaying kill. Hardly able to help themselves, they accused and insisted the administration either had something to hide or should offer its advisors to the hooves and talons of the Democrats and their desire to impeach whomever they can through unenforceable subpoenas.
Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, stated in a letter to the Justice Dept. June 15, 2006:
"It is my understanding that [Ms. Lam, CA U.S. Attorney appointee under President Bush] may have some of the most restrictive prosecutorial guidelines nationwide for immigration cases, such that many Border Patrol agents end up not referring their cases."
On March 21, 2007, Ms. Feinstein had this to say on Capitol Hill:
"The White House is in a bunker mentality. Won't listen, won't change; I believe there is even more to come out."
The fact is, Carol Lam, San Diego U.S. Attorney who was fired for her inability to effectively prosecute immigration laws, had a policy by which she would not prosecute someone who was here illegally, committed a crime, was deported, and then came back; unless he was convicted of two felonies in San Diego.
Paul Charlton, another one of the U.S. attorneys fired in the alleged "scandal", refused to prosecute pot-trafficking offenders unless they were caught and charged with 500 pounds or more of the drug.
In yet another preposterous case, the 2nd-most liberal print media giant in the country, the L.A. Times (owned by THE most liberal outfit, the N.Y. Times), had this to say about fired U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan in today's editorial:
"It was only when a Democratic judge threatened to go to Congress to raise a public fuss over [Ryan's poor performance] that Ryan was put on the termination list, according to e-mails released by the White House."
These absurd antics, for which there is no plausible reason, continue to this day for nothing other than to cause trouble for the Bush Administration and stifle its ability to address any issues or laws, such as its Health Care Reform Bill. Rather than hanging this on a procedural issue, in whether or not the President has the right to dismiss these people, which he obviously has, Bush should simply prosecute these cases individually on their own merits; then go to the Democrats and make them defend the misconduct and inappropriate actions of the malefactors themselves.
This administration is acting like a tired, lame duck in sitting around complacently accepting defeat in the flagrant, malicious attacks by the Democrats on all sides of the spectrum. If they don't learn to stand up to the bullying Democratic Machine fast, there'll be no time to stop the free-falling glide they're in now.
